Michelle Williams Reveals the Secret to Playing Marilyn: "You Let Yourself Be Really Bad"

Michelle Williams might be the underdog in a battle between Oscar powerhouses Viola Davis and Meryl Streep tomorrow, but tonight she is a winner.

"My friend said, ‘You're like the Susan Lucci of the Independent Spirit Awards," Michelle—who had been nominated four times prior—giggled when she came backstage after accepting her award for Best Female Lead.

And from what she's got to say about taking on Marilyn Monroe, the award is well earned:

READ: Michelle Williams Named First Honorary Irishwoman—Say What?!

"I feel like whatever you're working on in the moment feels like the hardest thing that you've worked on," Michelle said when we asked whether it was more daunting creating a character or adapting one that already exists.

For the record, all her previous Oscar noms (two of 'em) and Spirit Award noms have been for fictional characters.

Michelle continues, "Because it's what's confronting you on a daily basis with your shortcomings and what you're trying to get better at."

Though, that doesn't mean playing a legend was anything easy.

"Gosh, sometimes I can't even believe I did it because the challenges were just…" Michelle began before trailing off. "In a way, you had to remove the fact that she was an icon and put that out of your mind. Because it would be too daunting. And instead try to think of her as an ordinary girl, which is what she wanted to be thought of as."

So how did she get in full-on Marilyn persona (which, you'll remember, her costars said was a full-time gig as Michelle stayed in character between takes)?

"You watch all the movies. You read all the books. You go on YouTube. You become a really good student," Michelle happily explained while clutching her new trophy. "And you take time and you let yourself be really bad for a while and you push through that period."

But if you think becoming a big-screen bombshell has made the mama feel sexier in her day-to-day life, think again:

"Umm, no, not really," she chuckled good-naturedly (if not a bit sheepishly).

Well with those killer legs (shown off at the event in a pair of black mini-shorts) and chic blonde ‘do, we don't know how you could get sexier. In fact, we cannot wait to see what Michelle wears tomorrow.

'Wanderlust': The Reviews Are In!

Critics are a bit grossed out by the raunchy comedy but still charmed by leading man Paul Rudd.
By Kara Warner

Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston in "Wanderlust"
Photo: Universal

Fans of the big-screen pairing of Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd have likely been waiting for the two likable actors to reunite since their 1998 romantic dramedy "The Object of My Affection." At long last, that wait is over with the release of "Wanderlust," a comedy in which Aniston and Rudd play a stressed-out Manhattan couple who end up traveling through a hippie-ish community that teaches them a lesson or two about what's really important in life.

The critical response is at 55 percent "Fresh" over at Rotten Tomatoes, with some folks enjoying the awkward humor and unflappable charm of Paul Rudd and others having issues with Rudd and Aniston's schtick. Read on as we frolic through the "Wanderlust" reviews!

The Irresistible Charm of Paul Rudd
"Paul Rudd is the best friend a movie comedy can have. He always delivers the goods and something extra, usually something wild and weirdly wonderful. In 'Wanderlust,' Rudd lets the funny fly. Like the movie he's in, Rudd only seems normal. Inside, it's all deliriously unhinged. Rudd plays George, an uptight Wall Street suit squeezed into a Manhattan micro-loft with his documentarian wife Linda (Jennifer Aniston) until the recession shuts them both down. Off they go to Georgia where his idiot brother (Ken Marino, the film's co-writer) offers him a job in his porta-potty business. Unacceptable. So George and Linda take shelter in Elysium, a commune where craziness reigns along with pot, acid, dodgy hygiene and free love. When the luscious Eva (Malin Akerman) offers to get it on with him, George unravels his straight laces. Here comes the Rudd time capsule moment: In a mirror, George rehearses talking dirty to Eva, taking the word 'dick' and stretching it into syllables of near-pornographic hilarity. It helps that Rudd is once again working with director and co-writer David Wain, as he did in 'Role Models' and the immortal 2001 indie 'Wet Hot American Summer.' " — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

The Comedy and Quirk Factors
"In sophisticated comedy, what's funny is the tension between proper manners and the nasty or sexy subtext. Whereas in low comedy, there are no manners, and the nasty or sexy subtext is right there on the surface. And then there's 'Wanderlust,' in which the subtext is blasted through megaphones — the characters say so insanely much you want to scream. The satire is as broad as a battleship and equally bombarding. But it takes guts to do a comedy this big without gross-out slapstick, and the writers and the actors are all in. ... You say it sounds like a bunch of stereotypes — and 40-year-old stereotypes? The defense concedes the point. It's not fresh terrain. But this tribe of hippies is also a tribe of marvelously inventive comic actors doing a fair amount of inspired improvisation and grooving on the mindset." — David Edelstein, NPR

The Final Word, Pro-Con-Pro Style
"The role of an uptight fish out of water is what Rudd was born for, and he plays George with the congeniality and improvisatorial brio for which he's become deservedly famous. He and Theroux, who's barely recognizable beneath a thatch of long hair and a beard, deliver the most well-earned laughs in 'Wanderlust,' which otherwise traffics in tired jokes about menstrual cycles, placenta soup and rubbing your fingers together instead of clapping. ... Between this film and last summer's 'Horrible Bosses,' Aniston's coyness — starring in explicit movies without having to be explicit herself — seems to be becoming her stock in trade. It's not a particularly commendable one, and 'Wanderlust' does little to disprove that she's still a star more suited to TV rather than the big screen. As for Rudd, he still has charm to burn, even playing a type he's long since outgrown. Like George observing the overgrown children of Elysium, it might be time for Rudd to move on." — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post

"The production has all the style and subtlety — and, admittedly, the exuberance — of TV sketch material. A psychedelic sequence makes Madonna's halftime show look like high art. Both the straight and hippie realms are populated by parallel groups of fevered eccentrics; the cast includes Mr. Marino, Justin Theroux, Malin Akerman, Joe Lo Truglio, Kathryn Hahn, Kerri Kenney, Lauren Ambrose and Linda Lavin. Alan Alda is the commune's venerable founder, Carvin, whose brain long ago failed the acid test. 'Wanderlust' is nothing if not strenuous, strident and gross, and most of it fails the comedy test." — Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal

"There are so many things to feel guilty about liking in the pure and prurient guilty pleasure that is 'Wanderlust.' Starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston, this is a comedy of no manners about finding your bliss and escaping the modern grind. The laughter is served up naughty and nice, and frequently au naturel, earning it an R rating when perhaps RR (really raunchy) would have been more appropriate. Appropriateness, however, has pretty much been jettisoned by the filmmakers, who have opted instead for the good-fun-found-in-bad-taste tradition of 'The Hangover.' Directed by David Wain and co-written with his frequent comic collaborator, Ken Marino, the film is, overall, a very wobbly affair starting with all the dangling naked body parts that greet George (Rudd) and Linda (Aniston) when the couple pulls into a free-love commune they mistake for a B&B." — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times

19 Kids and Counting Sneak Peek: Alleged Extortion Targets Amy Duggar and James Garrett Talk Music

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

Amy Duggar is an aspiring singer, not an aspiring tabloid fixture.

Or so it sure seems in this clip from Tuesday's new episode of 19 Kids and Counting, in which Jim Bob Duggar's niece talks about meeting musician James Garrett and the advice he's given her about performing.

Shocking! Well, at least the Iowa woman who supposedly thought that a photo of Amy and Garrett smiling together could net her $10,000 seemed to think so!

MORE: James Garrett laughs off "intimate photos" plot

"James is very talented, and he's definitely shown me different ideas that you can do, and I look up to him. The advice he gives me, I take," Amy says of Garrett, who has had the 25-year-old perform during his A Tribute to John Denver show at the Little Opry Theater in Branson, Mo.

Teresa Hunt has been charged with one count of extortion for allegedly demanding that TLC cancel 19 Kids and Counting or pay her $10,000, or else she would sell photographs she had of Amy and the 56-year-old Garrett in an "intimate situation" to the media.

Garrett laughed off the insinuation, calling the supposedly incriminating pictures "totally benign."

If the photo that E! News obtained is any indicator, Hunt had squat on Amy Duggar. But maybe compromising situations are just in the eye of the beholder.

19 Kids and Counting airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. on TLC.

Kim Richards Feeling "Really Good" After Rehab

real-housewives-of-beverly-hills-kim-richards-feels-good-post-rehab.jpg

Phew.

There was a moment where we were really worried about you, girl, but seems like things are looking up.

Just a little over a month after leaving rehab, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Kim Richards is finally feeling better

After her very public troubles were aired on TV, Kim seems to now have a very different outlook on life.

She recently said:

"It was a rough go to get here, but I feel really good. I love life. I'm just enjoying it so much.

Iwas definitely tired of the way my life was and I wanted to get better. My family and friends – without them I just definitely couldn't do it."

She even gave a shout-out to her supportive fans:

"The fans have been so supportive. I steal a sneak peek at Facebook or Twitter … I look on there and I see them and they're like, 'We love you and you're the best' or whatever they say. And when I go places, too. I'm walking down the street and people walk up to me and they just hug me and they cry and they're like, 'We love you and we watched you go down and come back up.'

That's so rewarding to me, to know that I've been something good in their life as well that I can come up on the other side now."

AND, she's making huge improvements on her mental and physical being by taking up Pilates and hiking.

Kim also has some words of encouragement for those who are struggling as well.

She says:

"It doesn't make me want to walk away from anything. It makes me want to step out in front of everything and just say you know what? Anybody can do it. I don't want to walk away from anything in my life. It's part of life, you know, facing it."

Wow, this truly is a whole new Kim. She's a completely different person than the crying, lonely, and disoriented woman we saw on RHOBH.

Keep up the good work, Kim. We are rooting for you, hon.

Justin Bieber, Far East Movement Drop Fist-Pumping 'Live My Life'

The RedOne-produced party anthem is the lead single off FEM's Dirty Bass.

Justin Bieber's track with Far East Movement dropped Friday (February 24), a few days earlier than expected. "Live My Life," which officially hits iTunes on Tuesday, is the lead single off FEM's new album, Dirty Bass. It feels like Bieber is taking a page from the Usher playbook by hooking up with the dance party-minded production team. The club thumper pays homage to tracks that Usher has made with David Guetta and will.i.am, for instance.

The feel-good song is grinding and a little dirty. For Bieber's part, he sings the hook, proclaiming, "I'm gonna live my life/ No matter what/ We party tonight/ I'm gonna live, live, live my life/ I know that we gonna be all right." He then throws in the good-old dance floor chant "woo woo woo" for good measure.

"We're thrilled to have Justin be a part of Dirty Bass," rapper Kev Nish told RollingStone.com about the club-busting collaboration. "Far East Movement has always focused on unexpected collaborations and mashing up musical genres, which keeps making music exciting. 'Live My Life' is a song we think both Far East Movement and Bieber fans will enjoy together."

The team also worked with LMFAO's RedFoo on a remix of the swirling party track. And, in case you're wondering how the guys in FEM know Bieber, well, apparently Snoop Dogg introduced them at an awards show last year.

The track's producer, RedOne, described the song as "a smash," before he spoke a bit more about the song and hitting the studio with the boys. He added, "And Justin sang the chorus. It's a really good song, and I think people are gonna dance like crazy to it."

Gerard Butler Has Been In Rehab For Weeks!! That Sneaky Fox!!!

gerard butler rehab

OH!! GERARD!!!

What went wrong, handsome??? As soon as we heard, we sat up straight with concern!!

Apparently Gerard Butler signed himself up for a nice vacay treatment getaway at the Betty Ford Center three weeks ago!!

Poor thing hurt himself so bad during the filming that he needed pain meds to soothe the aches!! But then he got hooked on them (NEVER cool) and has had issues ever since!!

Ugh!! This is why all of Hollywood needs to take a mandatory class with Dr. Drew, LOL!!

Sources also reveal, as much as we hate to hear it, that some cocaine problems developed too but the main addiction was with the prescription drugs.

Gerard is supposed to leave Friday afternoon. Hopefully he's all better… he's too much of an asset in the hunk department to spiral down that black hole!!

American Idol Top 24 Complete: Who Made the Last Cut? And Which Castoff Is Coming Back?!

AMERICAN IDOLMichael Becker / FOX

On last night's surprisingly undramatic installment of American Idol, 14 hopefuls learned they had made it into the top 24 and would get a shot to perform live for votes.

The proceedings were cut off just as emotional family man Adam Brock, torn between missing his daughter and being put on this earth to sing, was sitting down in front of Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez at the La RĂªve theater at the Wynn in Las Vegas to learn his fate.

"I love to watch a man cry, so I hate to do this," Steven teased.

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

Nothing wrong with a few manly tears of joy! Brock made the cut, as did the very talented Jeremy Rosado right after him.

Further down the line, the second time was not the charm for J.Lo fave Scott Dangerfield, who made it to Hollywood last year but had to leave the competition for undisclosed reasons. Lopez said she remained a fan but just didn't sense the same intensity from him this season.

But the second time was the charm for Deandre Brackensick, who made it all the way to this fork in the road last season and was denied at the pass.

"We could see your confidence had grown, that your voice had grown," Lopez informed him. "We'd be crazy people if we didn't ask you to be in the Top 24!"

MORE: Chris Brown and Rihanna Reuniting on American Idol?

A fair amount of tears were shed as the show said goodbye to Jermaine Jones, whose baritone was unique but needed a little more work before they could let him through, Jackson explained.

Ariel Sprague, Shelby Tweten and Hollie Cavanaugh—all teenagers—had to face the judges together to find out who scored the final spot. So it was a bittersweet (though largely pretty sweet) moment for Hollie when she found out that she was the one.

We were much more heartsick when the whole show came down to the equally adorable and charming David Leathers Jr. and Eben Franckewitz for the very last spot—and they had to be split up.

MORE: Idol Alum Michael Lynche Welcomes Son Kingston Michael

Eben's a great addition to the group, but we were sorry to see David go.

Or did he? Of course, there's a twist: David, Jermaine, Richie Law or Johnny Keyser (who didn't even make it into the final 42) is coming back next week to make it a neat 25. You know, for kicks!

In the meantime, America, here is your complete Top 24:

• Deandre Brackensick
• Adam Brock
Baylie Brown
• Hollie Cavanaugh
Hallie Day
Colton Dixon
Creighton Fraker
• Eben Franckewitz
Reed Grimm
Heejun Han
Jen Hirsh
Haley Johnson
Skylar Laine
Joshua Ledet
Chase Likens
Shannon Magrane
Aaron Marcellus
Phil Phillips
Jessica Sanchez
Chelsea Sorrell
Elise Testone
Erika Van Pelt
Brielle Von Hugel

The top 13(!) guys sing first next Tuesday.

Are you satisfied with this group? Who do you want to see back in the competition? Who's already got your vote?! Sound off in the comments!
