Out of Jail, Anne Hathaway's Con Man Ex-Beau Opens Up About Their Love Affair

Anne Hathaway was only 21 when she fell for Raffaello Follieri. They were a picture-perfect couple until she abruptly dumped the Italian businessman shortly before he was collared for defrauding investors of millions.

Follieri subsequently pleaded guilty to conspiracy, wire fraud and money-laundering charges in September 2008 and spent four years in a federal prison. Now that he's been released and deported back to Italy, the con man's opening up for the first time about his ill-fated relationship with the Oscar nominee.

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

In an interview with ABC News, the now 33-year-old Follieri admits he still has feelings for Hathaway, but was "happy" to learn his former flame has gotten engaged to designer Adam Shulman.

"I want only the best for this person," Follieri said. "She was very sweet to me. We had, I think, a very nice relationship. I don't have anything bad to say."

The entrepreneur, who was known to spend lavishly on the actress, treating her to expensive getaways, opulent dinners and even jewelry, revealed that Hathaway was completely in the dark about his shady business practices when they were going out.

"I don't think she knew anything because we didn't have a business conversation," he added. "I was discussing the business and what—in general, but not anything specific. I didn't have, believe me, any thought, that something would go wrong."

Follieri also revealed that at the height of their love affair, the two frequently discussed getting hitched.

"We talked about that several times," he confessed. "I think when somebody spends four and a half years without another person means that—it was something that was working for us… but life goes in different direction that we cannot control."

Alas, some bad decisions on Follieri's part doomed the relationship. The feds busted the Italian for lying about his ties to the Vatican in order to purchase church properties well below their going rate so he could flip them and make a quick profit. He also illegally funneled up to $6 million from investors to pay for his extravagant lifestyle with Hathaway.

While the 29-year-old actress has since moved on, Follieri is starting to do the same,  noting that he hasn't communicated with her at all since his bust. However, he has nothing but "positive" recollections of their years together.

"I'm not trying to clear my name," he said. "I'm just try to go on and live my life."

Follieri's full interview airs tonight on Nightline. No word if he plans on seeing his ex next month play Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.

It seems like just yesterday that Phillip Phillips was crowned the winner of "American Idol," and although season 11 has ended, your favorite Idols are heading out on tour very soon.

MTV News recently caught up with the still-humble champ to talk about prepping the big summer tour, as well as his recovery from the recent surgery he underwent to remove a number of large kidney stones.

"I'm feeling good," he assured MTV News. Phillips recently told The Associated Press that he's "getting better each day, so that's a good thing. I'm just walking around, getting my strength back together. It was tough, you know, those first few days, but I'm getting to where I can pick the guitar back up and write a little bit."

Speaking about the buzz surrounding the "Idol" tour, the 21-year-old seemed to still be wrapping his head around the extent of the production. "I'm real excited. It's all of our first time being on a real tour, and it's going to be a big learning experience. We're all really excited about it," Phillips said. "It's a lot of jamming-out music, and that's what I do. Hopefully people are feeling the music when I'm feeling it, so it's going to be fun."

And what about the work on his highly anticipated debut album? "I'm just starting [to work on it], so I'm excited," Phillips said. "I've been writing. I have other songs written, and I'm excited to get it out there."

In addition to his recovery, the "Idol" tour and work on his solo album, Phillips will also be performing at the Fourth of July celebration at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., alongside country singer Josh Turner, "Smash" star Megan Hilty, actor Matthew Broderick and famed composer John Williams.

Katy Perry Breaks Silence On Divorce

'There were times when what was going on in my personal life was so overwhelming,' Perry says in a new interview.
By Gil Kaufman

Katy Perry has been mum on the details of her divorce
from Russell Brand. But in a new cover story in the Hollywood Reporter Perry gives a peek into the difficulty she faced in the split, as well as her plans to launch her own record label.

"There were times when what was going on in my personal life was so overwhelming that I had to bend over to let those tears fall straight out of my eyes and not my false lashes just as I'm about to go up on that ramp and sing 'Teenage Dream,'" she said. Speaking in advance of the release of her 3D concert documentary, "Katy Perry: Part of Me,"
the 27-year-old pop singer said it's impossible for anyone else to know what went on inside her brief marriage to the British comedian. "Nobody knows what really happened except the two people who are in it."

Part of her vision for the movie was to document her relationship with Brand as it crumbled just as her career was launching into the stratosphere with a record-breaking string of hit singles from Teenage Dream. That kind of honesty was in keeping with her heart-on-sleeve method of writing songs and she said, "Honesty has always worked for me ... so if it ain't broke, why f---ing fix it?"

After putting up $2 million of her own money to make "Part of Me" a reality, Perry and her team are expecting the movie to have an opening to rival Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" $30 million first weekend. First, though, she had to convince her nervous business manager that it was worth dropping the cash to film her November 2011 concert at Los Angeles' Staples Center in 3D. "I was like, 'Please trust me,'" she said she told him. "That's kind of been the mantra I've said to everyone my whole life: 'Trust me, I have a vision.'"

That same vision came into play in the recently released video for "Wide Awake," which Perry wrote for the film and which ends with a shot of her triumphantly ascending to the stage during her smash California Dreams Tour. Regardless of how the movie does, the relentlessly driven Perry has other business ventures in mind, including launching her own record imprint. Her as-yet-unnamed label will help give struggling artists a hand up in the same way that some music industry folks took a chance on Perry early on. "When it does come to fruition, I'm going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success," she said. "As people are coming to me with opportunities, I'm thinking, 'How would I want to be treated?'"

Check out everything we've got on "Katy Perry: Part of Me."

'Hunger Games' Star Jennifer Lawrence -- 911 Emergency on My Front Lawn

Exclusive Details

0626_jennifer_lawrence_x17
Frightening moment for "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence yesterday -- when an underage girl collapsed on the front lawn of her L.A. apartment complex.

The Santa Monica Police Department tells TMZ ... Lawrence was out walking her dog ... when she noticed a random girl laid out on her back.

As Jennifer rushed to assist the young woman, someone in the area called 911 ... and paramedics raced to the scene,

Cops tell us ... "The young lady who collapsed was a juvenile and was part of a group that was together."

It's unclear why the young woman was in front of Jennifer's home ... but cops say, "Alcohol may have played a role in the incident."

We're told paramedics didn't feel the girl needed to be transported to a hospital -- instead, she was treated on the scene and cleared to leave.

So far, no word back from Lawrence's camp.

'American Idol' Hopefuls Audition By The Thousands In Newark

More than 5,000 people auditioned on Saturday to see if they have what it takes to be the next Phillip Phillips.
By Cory Midgarden

Exactly one month after crowning Phillip Phillips as Season 11's "American Idol," the hit television series is once again on the hunt for the next singing superstar. The auditions' fourth stop drew more than 5,000 hopefuls to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday, all with dreams (or delusions) of hearing those four life-changing words: "You're going to Hollywood!"

Among the hopefuls "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest, who was confident in Seasons 12's success.

"We actually now realize we don't know what we're going to find, and that makes for the best season," Seacrest said. "When we set out to find something specifically it doesn't work out as well, so when we don't know it usually works out best."

Although the show set its sights for nothing particular, many of the singers in attendance knew exactly what they had to offer the show.

"I'm someone like Beyoncé," declared 23-year-old Princess Jeanbart. "I'm a go-getter and I know what I want and this is what I'm here for."

Also secure in her coming audition was Gonenc Eddy. "I have a very soulful sound, very old fashioned," the 26-year-old said. "You don't hear me too often. I'm not on the radio."

Even though the arena was filled with optimism, 19-year-old Andrew Gasparre was all too familiar with "Idol" rejection. "This is actually my third time auditioning," he said. "I'm very excited. I've waited all my life, since fifth grade, actually, to do this."

And although this was Daniel Monje's "Idol" debut, the 25-year-old was fully prepared for a disappointing departure. "It doesn't stop here at 'American Idol,' " he said."If this doesn't work out for me, sir, I got to continue on chasing my dream."

What do you think it'll take to win this year's title? Sound off in the comments below!

André Téchiné, Director of ‘Unforgivable’

ANDRÉ TÉCHINÉ, who turns 70 next year, makes impossibly elegant movies about very messy lives. All the people in his films are in one way or another wanderers, existential transients drifting from relationship to relationship, identity to identity, unable somehow to settle into themselves, and that’s just the way Mr. Téchiné likes them. Movies like “Wild Reeds” (1994), “Thieves” (1996), “The Girl on the Train” (2009) and the new “Unforgivable” — his 19th feature, opening Friday — are filled with characters who seem not to have been created but simply found, strays picked up off the street. He offers them a place to rest while they, and he, try to figure out who they are and where they’re going: the house is rambling but beautifully appointed, and the host is gracious, tolerant, tactful. At this point Mr. Téchiné has been putting up lost souls for nearly 40 years; he knows what he’s doing.

The invited guests in “Unforgivable” include a goatish old French writer, Francis (André Dussollier); his new wife, Judith (Carole Bouquet), a bisexual former model; her ex-lover, Anna Maria (Adriana Asti), a private detective whose son, Jérémie (Mauro Conte), has just been released from prison; and Francis’s flighty daughter, Alice (Mélanie Thierry), who abandons her husband and daughter to run off with Alvise (Andrea Pergolesi), a handsome heroin-dealing aristocrat. The action takes place in the world’s most ravishing decaying city, Venice, and the surface of the movie is as smooth as the placid canals. The scenes flow, one to the next, serenely, no matter what crazy things these people are doing. Mr. Téchiné always attends to his viewers’ senses, and little by little the characters’ eccentricities come to seem less strange, as if beauty itself forgave everything.

Mr. Téchiné’s style is perilous — he risks both preciousness and narrative incoherence with every movie — and it took him a while to master it. He is of the generation of French filmmakers that followed the New Wave. In the mid-1960s, when François Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard, Claude Chabrol, Eric Rohmer and Jacques Rivette were in full swing as directors, Mr. Téchiné was doing what they had done in their previous lives: writing film criticism for Cahiers du Cinéma. After that de rigueur rite of passage he made his first film, “Pauline S’en Va” (“Paulina Is Leaving”), in 1969; it didn’t make much of a stir and never opened in the United States. He waited six years before attempting another feature: that movie, a multigenerational family saga that opened here under the title “French Provincial” (1975), was more successful, both commercially and artistically, but he never did anything quite like it again. His next two films were a moody, florid noir called “Barocco” (1976) and a biopic, “The Brontë Sisters” (1979).

His mature style first steals into view in “Hôtel des Amériques” (1981), which was also the first of six remarkable collaborations with Catherine Deneuve. It’s an odd love story, set in Biarritz, about the relationship between a mysteriously reserved anesthesiologist, played by Ms. Deneuve, and an impulsive, rather neurotic man played by Patrick Dewaere. Everything about their on-again, off-again affair feels tentative, provisional, and nothing much is resolved in the end, but the movie has an imaginative freedom that was new for Mr. Téchiné, a willingness to surprise himself.

And he has continued to make movies in that spirit: the surprises keep coming. He’s now refined the exploratory manner of “Hôtel des Amériques” to the point where it seems capable of refreshing even the most conventional movie forms. “Scene of the Crime” (1986) and “Thieves” are thrillers, of a sort — there are murders, at least, in both — but their suspense has almost nothing to do with the usual questions of who did what and whether they’ll get away with it; they are about how crime affects the relationships of the people involved. A bourgeois family drama like “My Favorite Season” (1993), in which Ms. Deneuve and Daniel Auteuil play a brother and sister whose mother is dying, becomes a meditation on memory’s power to destabilize the present, to unsettle everything that had seemed firmly settled.

Mr. Téchiné likes to keep things fluid, unstable, which is perhaps why his movies are so sympathetic to the dire confusions of youth. All his pictures feature troubled adolescents and twentysomethings, trying to find a way to be themselves, their faces serious, clouded with uncertainty. Jérémie, in “Unforgivable,” has that look. So does Jeanne (Émilie Dequenne), the young protagonist of “The Girl on the Train,” who glides on her Rollerblades around Paris, searching for a job in a desultory way and falling into an affair in more or less the same manner, and eventually, for no apparent reason, telling a big, public lie just to announce that she exists. Mr. Téchiné doesn’t presume to justify her, or even to explain her, but the movie leaves little doubt that he’s on her side.

His best film, “Wild Reeds,” is, not surprisingly, a coming-of-age story, set in a provincial boarding school in the early ’60s, when France’s colonial domination of Algeria was, after long struggle, coming to its agonizing end. It’s a Téchiné kind of moment in history, when a relationship is in flux, on its way to becoming something else. The kids in “Wild Reeds” — one of them a French Algerian — are trying to sort out their political feelings, their hopes for the future and their sexuality, all at the same time, and although the film has a sunlit grace and ease, Mr. Téchiné gives their problems the weight they deserve.

And he respects the weird randomness of teenage moods. There’s a lovely scene in a cafe in which a boy who has just discovered that he’s gay tells his consequential secret to his best friend, a serious girl who loves him. For a minute or so she ponders, glumly, the import of this revelation; and then “Barbara Ann,” by the Beach Boys, starts up on the jukebox, and they begin, spontaneously, to dance. Her smile, as she bops around, is huge, unforced, radiant; just like that, she’s been possessed by pure joy.

A few years ago Mr. Téchiné made a lovely romantic comedy called “Changing Times,” a title that could serve for any of his films. Its hero and heroine, Gérard Depardieu and (inevitably) Ms. Deneuve, are old flames who meet again, years later, in Morocco and wonder if they can reconnect in the new world around them. They’re as puzzled and awkward as teenagers, and that makes them, in Mr. Téchiné’s view, alive in the best way.

It’s not 1962, but the changing times we live in now are his kind of moment too. Everything’s up in the air, all the old ideas about race, gender, sexuality, political and economic alignments. And that disorder, his movies suggest, is really a more natural order, nothing to be afraid of: if you can improvise a little, go with the flow of history, there are pleasures to be had. That’s why he’s been inviting us in, one by one, for all these years. He has always been a wonderful director; he now seems an invaluable one. His time has come — out of the blue, like a good song on the jukebox.

Red Carpet Confidential: Coco Austin’s Swimsuit Secrets: Gym, Tan, Water Pills?

As a swimsuit model, Ice Loves Coco star Coco Austin is a professional at looking her best whether relaxing poolside or taking a dip in the pool.

How does she do it?

“When I need to get prepared to go to the beach — like on vacation — the first thing I do is take water pills,” the reality star, 33, tells me during a Ghost Recon: Future Soldier video game event. “That’s a big step for people. Take it for a week in advance, like if you have a wedding to go to, or something special that you need to do.”

She adds, “The water pill is great to do because it gets rid of the excess water in your skin, and it takes care of bloating, so that’s good for women. That’s what I would do first — water pills. You can get them at GNC or any vitamin shop, even online. It’s completely natural, so it’s not something bodybuilding wise that you need to worry about. But because it dehydrates you, you don’t take it for long. Stop it right after your special occasion.”

OK! NEWS: BETHENNY FRANKEL USES COCO AUSTIN'S BUTT AS DRINK SHELF

Still, diet alone won’t lead to a picture-perfect body. To tone up, she hits the gym.

“I’m into squats and lunges,” she says. “Those are very key in just getting your whole body in shape. You don’t go to the gym and squat one or two times, and say ‘OK, I’ve been to the gym.’ You go and you lift a lot of weight — the more weight you can lift, the faster you’re going to mold your body into perfection. Girls are a little scared from lifting weights, but the more you do it, the better and more in shape you’re going to get.”

In the beauty department, a tan helps — even if it’s fake.

“To have a little color on your skin, maybe the Mystic Tan, it hides the imperfections,” she says. “The whiter your skin is, the more imperfections on your body you’re going to see, so what I like to do is I go and I Mystic once a month to give myself a little glow, and that puts you in shape a little bit more.”

Laura Jane Grace And Against Me! Answer Your Questions

Fans submitted questions about Laura's new transgender life and the future of the band ... here's how they answered.
By James Montgomery

Laura Jane Grace
Photo: MTV News

When Against Me! agreed to sit down with MTV News for their first on-camera interview since frontwoman Laura Jane Grace announced she was transgender, they made two things abundantly clear: No topic was off limits, and they wanted to hear from their fans.

And all week, we've been rolling out prime examples of the former — Laura's frank discussion of her life-long struggle with gender dysphoria, her bandmates' acceptance of her new life, and the painful process of coming out to family and friends. But today, we're going to focus on the latter.

Because we asked AM! fans to submit questions for Laura and the band, and they delivered. And, true to their words, Against Me! answered as many as they possibly could (they did have to soundcheck for the night's gig). And we can think of no better way to wrap up the week than by bringing those answers to you now.

From questions about how Laura's new life will affect Against Me!'s new album — "It's a huge part of it," bassist Andrew Seward said, though Laura was quick to add "I think it's up to us to make a record that speaks for itself" — to how her life would have changed if she'd been born a woman on the outside ("I think I probably wouldn't have gotten arrested so many times when I was younger," she laughed), the band's fans made it clear that, not only have they been following this story from the beginning, but they can't wait to see what happens next.

Tellingly, though, we received questions from young men and women who, like Laura, were struggling with their own gender — many of whom now look up to her as a role model. And as she did throughout our interview, Laura did her best to answer with the kind of humility and honesty that made our chat so compelling in the first place.

"I've been completely blown away; the most amazing part for me is the amount of trans men and women who have been coming out to the shows and meeting them after and talking with them. I'll have a lot of them come up to me and be like 'It's amazing, what you're doing, and I look up to you so much,' " she said. "And it blows me away, because I look at them, and they're so much further along in their transition, and it's like 'What you're doing for me, by being here right now, is beyond whatever you think I'm doing for you.' Just being able to make that connection ... because I had no friends in that world. And to make those connections, that is half of what I wanted to accomplish by coming out, to be part of that community."

Cuteness: Another Word For Evil

Universal Pictures

The titular stuffed bear in Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted” has got a lot going on behind those button eyes. He may look like the Snuggle mascot’s accountant, as he says in the film, but he parties hard and punches harder. For a stuffed animal lacking opposable thumbs, he’s also quite adept with a bong. But as walking, talking plushies on the screen go, he’s just one in a long line. And he’s not even the most twisted thing out of the toy chest.

Elizabeth McGovern sheds her title to get down and dirty on stage at the Isle of Wight

By Georgina Littlejohn

It's enough to have the Dowager Grantham reaching for her smelling salts, seeing her daughter-in-law pick up and guitar and rock out with tens of thousands of people.

But Elizabeth McGovern couldn't have been further from her Countess Grantham character as she got her music groove on and took to the stage at the Isle of Wight Festival today.

However, she still managed to look like a lady as she joined 80s Scottish rockers Big Country on the main stage at the music event.

Elizabeth, 50, looked fantastic and every inch the rock chick in her short beaded black skirt, ankle-high boots, hot pink satin top and black blazer, but still looked chic and elegant and enough to make the Downton clan proud.

The American actress grabbed her guitar and joined frontman Mike Peters - formerly of The Alarm - and the band's new line-up for their set which included hits such as Big Country and Fields of Fire.

She and Peters, 53, then grabbed hands and headed down the stairs to the photo pit to slap hands and dance along with the festival goers that were at the front of the stage.

Before the show, Elizabeth said she was delighted to have been asked to play with Big Country on the main stage and told the BBC: 'I am thrilled to be playing with such a stellar cast of musicians.'

The band's bassist Tony Butler added: 'We had a tradition of working with great female vocalists such as Kate Bush and Eddi Reader in the past, so having the opportunity to have Elizabeth perform with us at the IOW is going to be really cool.'

McGovern also performs in her own band called Sadie and the Hotheads who performed on the Garden Stage shortly afterwards.

'As soon as I found out that Elizabeth could sing, it was a must to invite her to play at the festival. We will roll out the red carpet for Lady Cora.'

Charlie Sheen To Play President In 'Machete' Sequel

Director Robert Rodriguez announces the casting in a tweet.

Like father, like son. Charlie Sheen could follow pops Martin into the White House in an upcoming big screen role as the president in director Robert Rodriguez's sequel to his "Grindhouse" action pic, "Machete."

Rodriguez announced the casting on Thursday in a tweet that read, "I just cast Charlie Sheen in #machetekills as the President of the United States! Who better? More soon..." Sheen retweeted the message, which also included a photo of the "Anger Management" actor leaning his arm on Rodriguez's shoulder. A spokesperson for Sheen confirmed that negotiations are under way to have him join the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

If Sheen ends up in the movie, he'll be the second member of his family to take on the role of command-in-chief, following in the footsteps of Martin, who played the fictional President Josiah Bartlet for seven seasons on Aaron Sorkin's "The West Wing."

The original over-the-top 2010 revenge fantasy starring tattooed badass vigilante Danny Trejo began life as a fake B-movie trailer in Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's 2007 throwback exploitation flick "Grindhouse." It featured a galaxy of stars, including Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin and Lindsay Lohan.

The sequel will again feature Trejo, Alba and Rodriguez, along with Mel Gibson, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara and Zoe Saldana. Rodriguez announced in a tweet on June 12 that principal photography on the film had begun. The second chapter of a planned trilogy, due out in 2013, finds Machete being recruited by the U.S. government to stop a cartel leader and an arms dealer who have deployed a weapon in space.

Giuliana Rancic: Kylie Minogue's Grace Through Cancer Battle "Gave Me the Strength to Go Public"

It's no surprise that celebrities regularly inspire their fans when they come forward with stories of overcoming personal hardships. What may be surprising is that so, too, are their fellow celebrities.

Take E! News anchor and Fashion Police's go-to style arbiter Giuliana Rancic, who revealed on this week's sartorial show that none other than music superstar (and Fashion Police guest star) Kylie Minogue served as her inspiration when deciding to go public with her battle with breast cancer.

Minogue opened up about what led her to come forward with her battle back in 2005, when appearing on tonight's episode of Fashion Police.

"I was 36 years old, so it was kind of crazy, but obviously you want a silver lining from that gloom and doom, from that thunder cloud," she told Joan Rivers. "I've had lots of letters and people coming up to me in the street, basically saying, 'You've saved my life.' What can you say about that?"

"I know you've had that as well," Minogue added, turning to Giuliana—who promptly credited the Australian singer with forging the trail for her own decision-making process.

"I was diagnosed the same age as you, 36, last year," Rancic said. "When you get diagnosed, you don't know what to do…you Google. I went online and I read your story, and it gave me the strength to go public as well.

"Your story helped me and I thought, huh, my story could help someone else."

Indeed it has, as fan messages of thanks—as well as support—have flooded in since Rancic revealed her diagnosis this year.

"It's so real, I don't know how you can not tell the story," Minogue said. "I understand some people want to go through all that quietly, but for me it was not possible."

Which makes her story all the more inspiring. Now that's grace under pressure.

Karen Klein -- I DON'T Accept the Apologies

Exclusive

062212_bus_lady_tmzlive_launch
Karen Klein tells TMZ ... she DOES NOT accept the apologies issued by the kids who taunted her on a NY school bus ... claiming "I think they can do better."

Two of the devil children penned letters of apology to the 68-year-old bus monitor ... after the video went viral this week. Klein also got a letter from the parents of a boy who participated in the incident.

But Karen and her daughter just called in to "TMZ Live" ... saying they're just not ready to forgive.

Klein also says she has a few suggestions about how the kids should be punished.

Klein says she's blown away by the outpouring of support she's received -- and has already come up with a few ideas on how to spend the hundreds of thousands of dollars people have donated to her.
