Get your eye guards ready! This weekend, the Farrelly brothers' "The Three Stooges" hits theaters, along with the genre-bending horror flick, "The Cabin in the Woods," and Guy Pierce's futuristic sci-fi movie, "Lockout."
Standing in their way is three-time box office champion, "The Hunger Games." Since its March 23 premiere, Katniss Everdeen and gang have pulled in almost $500 million worldwide.
Will any of the new releases be able to tackle Panem? Or will the "Games" snag its fourth number-one slot in a row? Let's find out in Moviefone's Weekend Movie Preview.
NATIONWIDE RELEASES
What's the story: Based on the original short films, this movie follows the prank-prone trio Larry, Curly and Moe, as they try to navigate their way through the 21st century. There's iPhone gags, "Jersey Shore" references and a scantily-clad nun! The plot revolves around the three accidentally getting caught up in a murder plot. My the times have changed!
Box office prediction: Originally, the Farrelly brothers wanted Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro and Jim Carrey in the starring roles. When that fell through, the directors settled on went with Will Sasso , Sean Hayes and Chris Diamantopoulos. With a shortage of star power and poor reviews, don't expect big things from this blast-from-the-past family film. $16 million
What's the story? Odds are you know nothing about this movie, and that's exactly how director Drew Goddard and writer Joss Whedon want it. What seems like a generic horror flick -- five friends head to a creepy cabin in the woods where bad things happen -- is actually something far, far grander. Trust us, it's better you go into this film knowing absolutely nothing about it. (Hooray for surprises!)
Box office prediction Despite the fact that it's become a critical darling, don't expect this movie to sell tons of ticket. Although Chris Hemsworth (a.k.a. Thor) is a main character, "Cabin" lacks -- like the "Stooges" -- recognizable, mainstream movie stars. That said, writer/producer Joss Whedon has a very dedicated fan base, so it could end up snagging more money than expected. $16 million
What's the story? You may be asking yourself, when did Guy Pierce become an action star? Well ... right now! Although Pierce is best known for playing unassuming characters, in "Lockout" he's an ex-government agent sent to rescue the President's daughter. If you're not sold on Guy's potential badassness then watch the first five minutes of the film and see if it doesn't change your mind.
Box office prediction Pierce has been in plenty of notable movies, including two Best Picture winners ("The Hurt Locker" and "The King's Speech"), however, don't expect "Lockout" to win any awards (or, for that matter, make any money). $7 million
LIMITED RELEASES
Josh Hutcherson (a.k.a. Peeta Mellark) plays Mr. Popular in the high-school horror comedy "Detention." In "Bad Ass," Danny Trejo portrays an elderly man who kicks the crap out of people. (Seriously, that's what the movie is about.) Based on the best-selling book of the same name, "Blue Like Jazz" follows a teenager who looks to escape his evangelical upbringing by going to a progressive college. Aspiring journalists will enjoy "Lockout," a film about a reporter who tries to piece together an unsolved murder. "L!fe Happens" discusses the perils of teenager pregnancy and "Monsieur Lazhar" follows a middle-school class dealing with the death of their teacher. Last but not least is "Touchback," where an ex-high-school football star looks to return to his former glory on the field.
