Chace Crawford tweets emotional snaps as the Gossip Girl cast finish filming final episode

It's documented the life loves and drama of the likes of Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodesen since 2007.

But now the sixth season of Gossip Girl has drawn to a close, the cast made sure they went out with a bang.

Posting a series of emotional snaps on their respective Twitter pages, Blake Lively and Chace Crawford said goodbye to their co-stars with a fun-packed party.

And although filming for the New York-based teen drama has now wrapped for the final time, the cast didn't seem to be too down in the dumps.

In one group shot, Leighton Meester - who plays pampered princess Blair - poked her tongue out playfully at the camera while her co-stars smile happily.

Meanwhile, Blake looked happy and relaxed as she posed with her arms wrapped around Chace and Ed Westwick.

But it wasn't long before the bash appeared to descend into a huge food fight, with the stars smearing a giant cake all over their faces.

Chace happily tucked into some delicious icing, while Penn Badgly and Michelle Trachtenberg posed for the camera with the tasty treat smudged all over their bodies.

After five years on screen, the end of Gossip Girl was announced earlier this year.

But it looks set to be a happy ended for Blake Lively's character Blair and her on-screen love interest Dan Humphrey, played by Penn Badgley, after the pair were seen filming a wedding scene on location in New York.

Another couple who finally appear to have given in to their love for each other on the show are Blair and Chuck Bass, played by Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick.

However, it seems as though the pair don't have quick the same happy ending as Serena and Dan.
Leighton and Ed were seen shooting an emotional goodbye kiss at the Republic Airport in Long Island, New York, which ended with Chuck boarding a private jet and Blair getting into a waiting taxi.
