Lea Michele has belted out some of the biggest ballads as Rachel Berry on "Glee," but now the singer/actress is ready to make some hits of her own. Michele has announced that she is prepping music for her debut album.

"Just had a very exciting music meeting and am proud to announce that im officially on the road to making my first album! I'm so excited!" she tweeted on Tuesday. "There's so much to be thankful for right now. Feeling so blessed and thankful. And I couldn't do it without all of you! Love you guys!"

The announcement comes as the fourth season of "Glee" is underway. After graduating high school last season, Rachel has headed off to New York City to pursue her dreams in musical theater. This week's episode will be its second-ever tribute episode to the pop princess, dubbed "Britney 2.0."

In a teaser released ahead of Thursday's episode, fans got a taste of what Michele will be up to: putting her stamp on Spears' signature 2000 hit, "Oops!...I Did It Again." She performs the tune for her NYADA dance teacher (Kate Hudson) and manages to take the already sexy track and sultry it up by slowing it down and throwing in some "Chicago"-fied jazzy dance moves, all in a skin-tight black leotard.

With Rachel in NYC this season, all of the Gleeks have been spread across the U.S. for the show's latest season, and when MTV News spoke to her she shared how excited she was for the multiple story lines hitting the show.

"You basically have the kids who have graduated and their story lines, as well as the kids back in high school," Michele explained of the multi-location format kicking off this season. "I think it'll be really great because it gives us the opportunity for the characters who have been on the show for a while to move on and to start new story lines, but then the kids who are newer on the show will get to continue on."

Much like her small-screen persona, Michele has roots in musical theater. She kicked off her career in the mid-'90s, starring in "Les Miserables" and later "Ragtime" and "Fiddler on the Roof." Michele was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for her work in "Spring Awakening" and then found Hollywood stardom when she signed onto "Glee" in 2009.
