After a wild weekend that landed him a black eye and an arrest on charges of public intoxication and vandalism, two-time Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White posted an apology on Tuesday (September 18) on his Facebook page.
"I want to apologize for the unwise choices I made over the weekend and for any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests," White, 26, said about the headlines he made early Sunday morning when he was arrested in Nashville following the wedding of musician friend Patrick Carney.
"I was celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I'm truly sorry for my poor behavior."
White was arrested early Sunday morning after police responded to a call from the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel around 2 a.m. following reports of a drunken man pulling a fire alarm, forcing the hotel to evacuate all its guests. A Loews employee also reported that White had destroyed a hotel phone.
According to police, the world-famous snowboarder also tried to flee the scene in a cab while being pursued by a hotel guest, who informed the driver that the authorities had been notified. Police said that White kicked the man while trying to run away and then collided with him when he turned around mid-chase. The extreme sports hero, known for his stunning snow maneuvers, then reportedly fell back and hit his head against a fence after the collision.
He was transported to a local hospital and released and then arrested and booked by police. White, who police said appeared to be drunk at the time of the incident, was released on his own recognizance on Monday afternoon and scheduled to return for an October 10 court date.
